Maybe a flashing light for slower speed warning during the morning and afternoon hours when studentsRead More are walking to school and during the weekend when park activity is at its peak.
Terrie R March 27, 2014 at 07:50 am
While this is very sad, it was also preventable. No one should be trying to cross Five Forks in theRead More dark when they are not at a crosswalk! Flashing lights & reducing speed are not going to help if folks do not use the crosswalks and signals as they should.
Cathy Balke April 7, 2014 at 05:08 pm
Sometimes we need to look at how things are rather than how they should be – in a perfectRead More world. Yes, while I agree, everyone should use the crosswalk, many times even adults don't use them. I just think there are actions that can be taken to make this area safer for the many walking and biking people who are only trying to get to school/the park and back.

Winter Storm Warning through Thursday, Feb. 13

I think what we are seeing so far is a case of overcompensation by the media and the localRead More governments. Probably a good thing but in point of fact the temperature is above freezing and not forecast to drop until later this evening. The latest forecast from weather.com shows only 12-15 hours of temps below freezing beginning after midnight. That would make for treacherous conditions possibly on the roads, but nothing historical or unprecedented. Just a garden variety ice storm.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED BY THE PRESIDENT IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA...It’s no longer twoRead More events. It’s one long winter event” that will have “crippling” ice that will build up on the roads and power lines....the President declared an emergency in the State of Georgia and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts. Initially, the weather service had warned of two storms coming through Georgia this week. But Darbe said, “it’s no longer two events. It’s one long winter event” that will have “crippling” ice that will build up on the roads and power lines. Virtually the entire state will be hit but the worst areas will be Atlanta and east to Athens and Augusta. SOURCE: http://www.ajc.com/

My daughter and Son in Law witnessed this with their two year old. It is very sad all way aroundRead More that someone feels this sense of desperation. My prayers are with his family and those innocent bystanders who were traumatized by this tragedy.

There IS still a threat! The pavement on the hills in the subdivisions in the eastern parts ofRead More Gwinnett are still covered with sheets of ice. Main roads such as New Hope Rd where there are 2 of our county schools, still have very dangerous icy spots on them. If this is the case then u know there are many more roads that are the same. The person responsible for making such a desision should have to first drive a bus on these routes themselves, before our children are subjected to these dangerous conditions.
Shannon Honeycutt-Smith January 30, 2014 at 09:28 pm
Everyone, use common sense and make the decision for you and your child, not for the county! I canRead More walk my children to school, but most are not that lucky. Once again, Gwinnett takes a risk.
Angela January 31, 2014 at 09:06 am
I would love to know the bus drivers opinions. They were out driving yesterday and I would thinkRead More they had some kind of input on the road conditions. Is there one willing to step up…anonymously?
