Guidebooks Cause Bomb Scare - Buckhead Patch A set of guidebooks placed near a Buckhead bank on Wednesday caused a bomb scare and shut down Roswell and West Wieuca roads for a few hours while police investigated the suspicious package. One horse was so badly malnourished that it had to be euthanized, according to the police report.
A Lilburn man has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty after authorities found three malnourished horses in his possession. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the horses were being held at a location off the 500 block of Sweetgum Road in Lawrenceville. A police officer, animal control, and an inspector and veterinarian were called down after a local reportedly saw a horse on the ground that looked to be in poor health. They saw the horse, which was "severely malnourished and in obvious pain," according to the report. The two other horses on the property also were malnourished but mobile. The supervisor told police that it appeared that the horses had not been fed in several weeks. The vet performed humane …

A Lilburn man was accused of tying up his dog and repeatedly kicking and stomping on him. According to the Gwinnett County Police Report, an animal control officer came out to the man's home off Burnt Creek Drive in late January after a neighbor called in a complaint about the abuse. The man, 23-year-old Jarius Dixon, told the officer that he had kicked "Smokey," his pit mix, only a few times because he had bit his ankle. The officer reportedly did not see any mark on his ankle, though. Animal control saw the dog and what she believed to be a fresh bruise, due to bleeding, on his hind leg. The neighbor met up with the police officer and told her that she saw Dixon bring the dog out of the home, tie a rope around his neck, and repeatedly …
