Movie Review: 'The Last Stand' Keeps Schwarzenegger on His Feet

Arnold is on the screen, so you know what to expect -- bullets and action.

Arnold is back from being a two-term governor to playing a small-town sheriff. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a semi-retired sheriff in an sleepy southwest border town. He and his motley crew must now stop a notorious drug kingpin from escaping into Mexico in "The Last Stand." The bullets fly. There is plenty of action. But the star looks a bit rusty. You quickly come to the realization that this film is undeniably ludicrous.  Look, Arnold has never been a good actor, but it's a bit worse since he got back from being the "Governator." So what does he do to make up for his lack of talent? Cue an explosive montage! This movie is simply a testosterone-infused piece of cinema. It's cynical and satirical, coming at you in the form of a semi-…

News Nearby: Arnold Schwarzenegger Coming to Tucker

Scenes for a new movie will be filmed in nearby Tucker later this month.

Residents of a neighborhood off Brockett Road in Tucker are in for a bit of an upheaval later this month. A production company is moving in for a couple of days to shoot scenes for a movie and coming with them is... Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie in question is called "Breacher" and tells the sordid tale of a group of rogue DEA agents who get their comeuppance in gruesome ways. The title refers to the main character's name, played by the governator himself.  "'Breacher"...will be very like a new "Predator,'" Schwarzenegger told Empire Magazine. "It's a team around me and they get knocked off until there's only me left. Except in this case there will be a different twist to the whole thing instead of some alien monster." Variety describes…

'The Expendables 2' is Loud, Dumb, Action-Filled Fun

The 80s action heroes head out on another mission, making this sequel better than the original.

Our team of action heroes get betrayed on an overseas mission, and they set out on revenge in "The Expendables 2." Sure, there are dopey scenes but the action sequences are great, with Chuck Norris' character stealing every scene he is in. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a great bad guy, and his fight scenes with Sylvester Stallone are some of the best I've seen in a while. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, seemed a bit rusty. But, really, he's never been much of an actor anyway. The action is non-stop from the opening scene to the climatic airport battle. It's fun to watch. "The Expendables 2" features just about every action star of the 80s. If you grew up with these guys it works as a great nostalgia trip.  The Flick-O-Meter gives "…

'Total Recall' is a Total Remake

At the movies, a recall of an old film with different actors, better special effects and a predictable outcome.

Set in the future, Colin Farrell plays Doug Quaid, a factory worker bored with his job. Despite having a smoking hot wife, Kate Beckinsale, he is unhappy with his life. He soon finds out that the vivid fantasies he's been having are his real life when he signs up for a vacation mind trip in "Total Recall." Quaid soon finds out he is an agent mixed up with rebellion here on earth and is also involved with a super-sexy rebel agent played by Jessica Biel. All the while he must somehow stop Bryan Cranston's character, Cohaagen, from doing evil things to ordinary people. The plot thickens as Quaid realizes that everything he thinks he knows about himself is fictitious, and all of his memories have been implanted. A reluctant hero in a world …

Since the whole movie experience has become so expensive, tickets, popcorn, drinks, etc., is this one of those I can wait until it is released to Netflix in favor of something more of a 4 or 5 rating?   more ›

New ‘Conan’ Ripples with Action

The 1982 movie that made Schwarzenegger a star is remade in the muscular 3-D image of a young star with Harlequin Romance looks.

Hasta la vista Arnold. The 1982 movie that made Schwarzenegger a star has been remade. This new 3D version introduces us to a new young movie star who more than fits the part.  Conan the Barbarian is back. Bare chested, bloody and brutal, it is everything you would expect from a franchise that helped launch Arnold Schwarzenegger's career 30 years ago. Move over "Ah-nold" -- there is a new barbarian breaking new ground. Hawaiian actor Jason Momoa breathes new life into the role as Conan. Momoa is best known for his role in the wildly popular HBO show "Game of Thrones" as Khal Drogo. Now the long-haired actor, who looks as if he belongs on the cover of a Harlequin romance, brings his muscular physique to a whole new legion of fans. The …
