Atlanta Falcons starting running back Michael Turner was arrested early Tuesday, Sept. 18, on charges of DUI and speeding in nearby unincorporated Norcross. According to a Gwinnett County Police press release, 30-year-old Turner, of Suwanee, was observed driving a black Audi "at a high rate of speed' on northbound I-85 near Indian Trail Road. The traffic stop took place on I-85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard. He was traveling 97 mph in 65 mph zone, according to police. A member of the DUI task force made contact, and Turner identified himself as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. Updated 5:38 p.m., April 2 An Atlanta Braves relief pitcher was arrested early Monday on I-85 near Lawrenceville on a DUI charge, Gwinnett Sheriff's records show. Christhian Martinez, 30, was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center at 4:24 a.m., and he was released on bond at 10:41. Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith told the Gwinnett Daily Post that Martinez had a blood-alcohol content of 0.130, above the legal limit of 0.080. Martinez was stopped on I-85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard when his vehicle was spotted weaving and driving 40 mph, the Daily Post reported. In a press conference today, GCPD and ATF announced arrests of dozens involved in gang activity.
On Monday afternoon, the Gwinnett County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced a successful gang sweep in the county. During the eight month investigation, 49 gang members were arrested, 248 felony warrants issued, 16 burglary cases cleared and closed and more than 1500 grams of drugs seized. ATF Special Agent in Charge Scott Sweetow shared a message directed towards those thinking about committing these types of crimes. Patch is working on this story and will have more details.

A wanted Lilburn man was arrested earlier this month on 13 different criminal counts, ranging from drug-related charges to vehicle theft. His home was searched and similar charges were also brought against his two roommates. On Oct. 8 around 8:41 a.m., Gwinnett County police found the man, 26, at a residence on the 4800 block of Vivian Lane in Lilburn after officers recognized the Acura he's known to drive. According to the police report, the man had been wanted for two outstanding warrants: one for theft by receiving a motor vehicle and one for possession of a motor vehicle with a removed/altered VIN plate. Two suspects in a rash of robberies of Waffle House restaurants in metro Atlanta, including several in Gwinnett County, were arrested Saturday by police in Calera, AL, after apparently robbing another Waffle House there, according to articles in the Gwinnett Daily Post and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The arrests occurred after police responded to a Waffle House robbery at 4:15 a.m. in Calera, located south of Birmingham and just west of I-65, according to the newspaper accounts. One of the two suspects was caught after a short foot pursuit, police said. No injuries were reported. A second teenager is in custody in connection with the shooting death of Angelo Larocca last month at a Lilburn-area apartment complex, according to Gwinnett Police. Police spokesman Cpl. Ed Ritter said in an emailed release Thursday afternoon that Hunter Mason Davis, 17, of Snellville, and Brandon Mosley, 19, of Lilburn, are both are being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. Both are charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to jail records. The two are suspected in the June 28 homicide of Larocca, 19, at the Columns at Paxton Apartments in unincorporated Lilburn.
