News Nearby: Eagle Rock Distributing Consolidating, Moving to Norcross

After some 24 years in Stone Mountain, the company will consolidate its facilities there and in Dalton to a former Kraft warehouse in the Norcross area.

Eagle Rock Distributing Company plans to move out of its Stone Mountain facility at by year's end to a former Kraft warehouse in the Norcross area of Gwinnett County, said Kelly Coffed, with Eagle Rock public relations. The company is located at 1375 Beverage Drive in Stone Mountain The beverage distribution company has been at the Stone Mountain location since 1989. Between that location and its Dalton facility, it has 300 employees. "We've outgrown the space, so we needed to move into this new warehouse which is much larger and serves our needs much better," Coffed said. The move, which will consolidate Eagle Rock's Stone Mountain and Dalton operations into one central location, will probably take place in the fourth quarter, Coffed said…

Alliance Anchors City Art Renaissance

The Lilburn Art Alliance is just getting started, but already it has big plans for the city.

Twenty years ago, Sonny Franks was a little less gray-haired, but no less enthusiastic about bringing art to Lilburn residents. At the time, Franks first started thinking that something needed to be done about the wall over on the Cofer Electric building, located at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Main Street in Old Town. His very first design -- an "old-timey," fictional company, the Lilburn Locomotive Works. He even approached city council then about getting it done. "I didn't have any gray hair back when I first did that," Franks joked, "and, now I told them, 'We got to finally get started while I can still climb a ladder.'" Financial Strain Closes Buck's Pizza

Owners Alan and Rhonda Basner took over Buck's Pizza in January 2011, and just 18 months later the business is now closed.

It was supposed to be a slice of the American dream -- owning a business and getting to know the community and the community getting to know you. But, Alan Basner said trying to keep Buck's Pizza afloat was draining him financially. It had gotten to the point where he was putting in $3,000 a month of his own money, he said, "just to keep the doors open." "You have to know when to stop the bleeding," he said. "I would never think about going into the restaurant business again, definitely not the pizza business. "Everybody likes pizza; it just wasn't enough money." With the departure of Buck's Pizza, there are now 10 empty spaces at Lilburn Corners, located at Rockbridge Road and Lawrenceville Highway. There is more than 38,000 square feet …
