House fire in Lilburn reported as storm passed through the area, one of 123 fire department calls between 5 and 8 p.m.
Early evening storms brought wind, lighting and heavy rain to Gwinnett, prompting more than 100 calls being dispatched by the fire department. Gwinnett Fire captain Tommy Rutledge said the most significant call was a house fire on the 5300 block of Candleberry Drive in Lilburn that was caused by a lightning strike. Rutledge said fire fighters found "heavy flames showing through the attic" of the two-story residence at 5:43 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 6:39 p.m., Rutledge said. No injuries were reported. The house sustained extensive damage to the roof, attic and backside of the structure. Trees were reported down on four houses; two in Snellville and one each in Duluth and Norcross.
