The Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services Department issued the following release about Thursday's gas leak at Five Forks Trickum and Tom Smith roads: Firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak at the above location. Crews found a 3 to 4 inch gas main leaking outside a bank under construction on arrival. Construction crews were setting up to pour a concrete foundation for the business sign when the gas main was struck. When Fire crews arrived, they quickly set up a safety perimeter and called for additional units to monitor the gas levels throughout the area. Streets are now being re-opened following a natural gas leak.
Atlanta Gas Light has located and stopped a natural gas leak in Snellville near the corner of Scenic Highway and Henry Clower Boulevard, according to Gwinnett County fire officials. Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services said emergency crews were able to stop the leak about 3:45 p.m. Nearly 100 people at New London Plaza Shopping Center, and several other businesses along Scenic Highway and Henry Clower Boulevard, were evacuated earlier, according to a press statement from Capt. Tommy Rutledge. But, they are now being allowed to return. A construction crew working to install a utility pole struck a four-inch gas line earlier today. A natural gas leak caused by lightning early Friday morning in unincorporated Stone Mountain was capped before 7 a.m., according to Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. No injuries were reported. Rutledge said in a media release that after firefighters responded to a report of a grass fire near a home on the 5800 block of Hammersmith Road after 3 a.m., they found a small fire in the bushes and an active gas leak nearby. Fire crews put out the fire and called Atlanta Gas Light about the leak. Firefighters believe that lightning struck a tree, subsequently rupturing a plastic gas line leading to the house. Leak from two-inch natural gas line caused by construction digging.
All lanes of Lawrenceville Highway near Arcado Road in Lilburn were shut down for a short time Friday morning due to a natural gas leak, according to Gwinnett Fire Public Information Officer Tommy Rutledge. The highway was shut down after 10 a.m. in both directions after fire crews found an active leak along the roadside just south of the intersection with Arcado and Beaver Ruin roads. Firefighters were dispatched to the area at 10:07 a.m. Rutledge said the leak was caused by a construction crew digging in the area.
