GCPS-Gwinnett Chamber Partnership to Be Reviewed by Attorney General

The Gwinnett school system has helped Partnership Gwinnett fund business recruitment.

The Georgia Attorney General's Office has agreed to review the legality of a financial arrangement between the Gwinnett school system and a Gwinnett Chamber business unit, according to a media report. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Lauren Kane, a spokesperson for Attorney General Sam Olens, said that the office is reviewing the issue. It is acting on a request by state schools Superintendent John Barge. Since 2007, the Gwinnett system, which is headquartered in Suwanee, has given Partnership Gwinnett $150,000 a year. That money helps to fund the salaries of two employees who work to recruit new business to the county. Jim Maran Plans to Retire From Gwinnett Chamber

Chamber President and CEO has led chamber through tough economic times.

Jim Maran plans to retire as president and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce at the end of this year, according to a press release issued Sept. 7 by the chamber. Chamber Exec Masino Arrested on DUI Charge

Masino, also a former Suwanee mayor, was jailed and released on bond after his vehicle was initially observed on I-85.

Nick Masino, an executive with the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a former mayor of Suwanee, was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on Wednesday shortly after 10 p.m. on charges that include Driving Under the Influence. Masino, of a Yosemite Court address in Suwanee, was released on bond just before midnight Wednesday, jail records show. His vehicle initially was spotted swerving on I-85 South near the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road exit by an off-duty Suwanee Police officer, who radioed dispatch, police records show. Greater Lilburn Business Expo Offers Community Face Time

Around 80 vendors are expected for third annual event.

Here's a chance for some face-to-face time with local businesses and fellow residents of Lilburn. The third annual Greater Lilburn Business Expo is scheduled  5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Berkmar High School gymnasium. Featured will be around 80 local businesses — all offering door prizes — in a get-to-know-us environment. The event is produced by the Berkmar Business/Technology Department in partnership with the Lilburn Business Association, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and Solutions Marketing. The tie-in with Berkmar has been strong the past three years.
