Fireplace Believed to Have Caused Lilburn House Fire

A family of three has been displaced due to the fire Thursday evening.

A fireplace is believed to be the cause of a Lilburn house fire Thursday that has displaced one adult, two children and their pet dogs. No injuries were reported. According to Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden, firefighters arrived on scene to the fire on the 300 block of Harmony Grove Road around 5:57 p.m. Heavy smoke was found throughout the home and garage. The flames were found around the fireplace on the first floor, and smoke was coming from behind the fire box where crew members opened the chimney. Firefighters made their way under the house into the crawl space to put out the fire. A Lilburn man was robbed earlier this month at Park Crossing Apartments while a gun with a laser was pointed at his chest the entire time.

A Lilburn man was robbed earlier this month by two armed suspects who had a gun with a laser sight attachment pointed at his chest the entire time. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the 46-year-old had parked his car outside his home at the Park Crossing Apartments off Dickens Road around 11:10 p.m. on a Saturday when the incident occurred. He exited his car and saw a man leaning against a parked car next to his. Without speaking, the man held up a handgun with a laser sight attachment pointed at his chest. The second suspect approached the victim, grabbed him by the shirt and demanded his money, bracelet, necklace and cell phone. Driver Accused of Nearly Running Over Lilburn Officer

Before admitting to the crime, the driver originally said he didn't see the officer because he was looking down while driving, according to the police report.

A man was arrested earlier this month in connection to an incident where a Lilburn Police officer was almost run over by a car. According to the police report, the policeman was acting as the courtesy officer for Wesley Place Apartments in Lawrenceville the day before the arrest. Around 4:45 p.m., the property manager contacted the officer to report that he had spotted a suspicious vehicle that many people in the complex had complained about.  The officer went over to the vehicle and identified himself to the driver while flashing his gun and badge. Lilburn Man Charged After Police Find Malnourished Horses

One horse was so badly malnourished that it had to be euthanized, according to the police report.

A Lilburn man has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty after authorities found three malnourished horses in his possession. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the horses were being held at a location off the 500 block of Sweetgum Road in Lawrenceville. A police officer, animal control, and an inspector and veterinarian were called down after a local reportedly saw a horse on the ground that looked to be in poor health. They saw the horse, which was "severely malnourished and in obvious pain," according to the report. The two other horses on the property also were malnourished but mobile. The supervisor told police that it appeared that the horses had not been fed in several weeks. The vet performed humane …

Five Forks Office Suites Hit With Burglaries

Inside the Police Blotter: Three businesses off Five Forks Trickum Road have reported burglaries where custom-made computers and earphones were stolen.

Three business in the same building of Lilburn office suites were reportedly burglarized on the same night last month. According to the Gwinnett County Police reports, the incidents all occurred from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. on a recent Monday at building 600 of 3100 Five Forks Trickum Road near Kroger.  The first burglary was reported at Clark Nexsen Architecture. The front glass door was smashed, and the complainant told police that the suspect had taken a 21-inch flat screen monitor and one central processing unit. The other burglaries occurred at Helmuth Photography and ENG Group next door. Lilburn Man Accused of Nearly Running Over Police Officer

Inside the Police Blotter: The officer stepped in the middle of the roadway and ordered the driver to stop, but he just kept on driving, according to police.

A Lilburn man is accused of nearly hitting a police officer with his car earlier this month. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, three officers were conducting surveillance around 9:30 p.m. Valentine's Day at the Motel 6 off Oakbrook Parkway in unincorporated Norcross. The officers observed a gray Honda Pilot pull up to one of the buildings, and the male driver exited and walked to the second floor to meet with another man.  The driver, who was later identified as 27-year-old Phong Van, went back to the car and reparked it in a different space. Inside the Police Blotter: Woman Patted Down During Attempted Robbery

A Lilburn woman said a man pointed a gun in her face and demanded money, so when she told him she didn't have any, he patted her down and simply ran away.

A Lilburn woman told police that someone had tried to rob her earlier this month while she was walking back to her apartment. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the incident occurred around 10:22 p.m. Feb. 12 at Park Crossing Apartments, located at 2610 Park Crossing Way in the Lilburn area. The woman, 30, told police that she was walking from her car to her apartment when she saw a suspicious man walking up behind her. He saw her looking at him, so he turned away from her. Moments later, though, the man turned back in her direction, only this time he was wearing a black ski mask. Work Trucks Targeted in String of Lilburn Vehicle Break-Ins

A string of auto-related thefts targeting work trucks and vans were reported on the same day earlier this month in the Lilburn area. At least eight vehicles were broken into on the evening of Feb. 3, according to Gwinnett County Police reports. The incidents occurred within a two-mile radius along Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road, Arcado Road, Cole Drive and Killian Hill. On the 400 block of Horseshoe Circle, one resident said he found the doors open to his corporate work van when he was about to leave for work at 4 a.m. A $500 computer, two drills costing $310 and a $300 electrical carrier were taken. Suspects Smash Windows, Empty Fire Extinguishers at Mountain Park Elementary

A break-in was reported at Mountain Park Elementary earlier this month that involved suspects emptying fire extinguishers and smashing glass windows. The incident occurred from 9:31 p.m. to 10:13 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, according to the Gwinnett County Police report. Officers met with Principal Valerie Robinett and the Gwinnett Fire Department, who advised that they received an alarm at the school. They discovered that unknown suspects had broken the tempered glass at the rear door, entered the building and emptied three fire extinguishers, which had spread the chemical throughout the school. Lilburn Man Accused of Repeatedly Kicking, Abusing Dog

Jarius Dixon was arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

A Lilburn man was accused of tying up his dog and repeatedly kicking and stomping on him. According to the Gwinnett County Police Report, an animal control officer came out to the man's home off Burnt Creek Drive in late January after a neighbor called in a complaint about the abuse. The man, 23-year-old Jarius Dixon, told the officer that he had kicked "Smokey," his pit mix, only a few times because he had bit his ankle. The officer reportedly did not see any mark on his ankle, though. Animal control saw the dog and what she believed to be a fresh bruise, due to bleeding, on his hind leg. The neighbor met up with the police officer and told her that she saw Dixon bring the dog out of the home, tie a rope around his neck, and repeatedly …

Misdemeanor of cruelty to animals?! I imagine that rage is pervasive in this man's life, and If it is not a helpless animal, it will be his wife, or girlfriend, or child. It will be the the guy in the sports bar who supports an opposing team. It will be the guy on the sidewalk who makes a wisecrack as he passes, or the convenience store clerk who is dismissive.
