Parkview Baseball received their championship rings in a ceremony Friday night.
The Parkview Panthers 2010-2011 Baseball team got some dazzling rings on their fingers during halftime of Parkview's football game against Shiloh. Led by Coach Chan Brown, the Panthers baseball team took the field to be recognized for their impressive run to seize the class AAAAA baseball championship against Hillgrove. Panther fans at the Big Orange Jungle had plenty to cheer about Friday night with a 30-13 win over Shiloh and the ring ceremony for their very own baseball state champions. Players lined up with their families and received thunderous applause from the home crowd when announced. The most boisterous support was shown for Coach Brown. Panthers stun Hillgrove with 13 runs in the seventh inning for first title since 2002.
Having scored 13 or more runs in only six of 38 games previously, Parkview's baseball team picked the perfect time to score that many in a single inning Monday. Trailing 10-8 after six innings of Memorial Day's decisive third game of the Class AAAAA championship series against visiting Hillgrove, the Panthers exploded for 13 runs on 11 hits to rout the Hawks, 21-10. "We knew we wanted to add more than just the three we needed (to win)," said Travis Naraine whose first single in the seventh made it 10-9 and whose second that inning made it 18-10. Panthers split with Hillgrove, face Game 3 Monday.
Robert Stewart redeemed himself after breaking a promise Saturday. The Hillgrove senior told his coach he would successfully bunt in the 10th inning of Saturday's Class AAAAA championship baseball series at Parkview, and after two failed attempts, instead hit his first home run to win 13-10 and force a deciding third game Monday. Max Oberkofler was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the 10th for Hillgrove, and after Tyler Graham reached on a throwing error at first, Stewart's shot over the right field fence equalized Parkview's win in the doubleheader's first game.
