Knight Elementary and the Knight Elementary PTA -- with generous help from The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Home Depot, and community members -- are proud to debut a new on-site Outdoor Learning Project. The unique outdoor environment, designed to bring students, their families, and the local community together, will feature raised vegetable and pollinator gardens on school grounds. Parents and community members are invited to “A Knight in the Garden,” a special evening event celebrating the new outdoor project. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Knight Elementary, 401 River Road, in Lilburn. Thanks to a $30,000 grant, Knight Elementary School students soon will have a new outdoor learning center that will connect what they learn in class to what happens in nature. The Lilburn school received the $30,000 grant from two organizations, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Region 4) and the Greening Youth Foundation. Work on the learning center will begin in March, and once completed, it will include pollination and butterfly gardens, vegetable gardens, reading areas, lecture areas, a water conservation program, and a waste recycling program.
