Police in Forsyth County pulled a body from Lake Lanier on Sunday morning, and they are hoping it's a fisherman from Tucker missing since last month, WSB-TV is reporting. George "Marty" Counts, 47, disappeared Feb. 11 while fishing at the lake, and search crews have been trying to find him ever since. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies had discovered his 15-foot boat stranded on a bank and out of gasoline. The body is being examined by the local coroner's office in order to make a positive identification. Patch will have an update once an announcement is made.

The body of Robert Armistead, 54, was pulled from the lake Sunday.
The body of a Lawrenceville man was found Lake Lanier over the weekend, according to police. The man has been identified as Robert Armistead, 54. According to the Hall County Sheriff's Department, Armistead's 10-to-15 foot jon boat was found overturned in the water about 10 feet off the shore. Armistead's body was taken to the Dekalb Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and toxicology. The Hall County Fire Department's Dive Team reportedly pulled Armistead from Lake Lanier Sunday, according to CBS Atlanta. The dive team responded to a call of a capsized boat near the Aqualand Marina about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 6. Police have said that foul play is not suspected.

Kile Glover, the son of Usher's ex-wife who was critically injured at Lake Lanier earlier in July, may have to be taken off life support, according to media reports. A "friend of the family" was piloting the personal watercraft that injured the stepson of superstar entertainer Usher last week on Lake Lanier, according to a media report. MTV.com has reported that Jeffrey S. Hubbard was the operator of the personal watercraft that ran into Kyle Glover (aka Kile Glover), 11, and a 15 year old girl last week on the lake. Glover and the girl were life-flighted to Children's Hospital at Egleston in Atlanta after the accident. The stepson of superstar entertainer Usher is reported brain dead after a recent collision on Lake Lanier, according to a media report. The entertainment website TMZ.com reported that Kyle Glover, 11, has been declared brain dead by doctors, but no decision has been made whether to take him off life support. Usher, a Johns Creek resident, reportedly visited his stepson in the hospital in Atlanta on Saturday. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is reporting that two children were injured on Lake Lanier Friday afternoon when a Jet Ski rode over the inner tube they were riding on. The accident is reported to have taken place near Van Pugh Park at the end of Gaines Ferry Road at about 3 p.m. "Right now we have that a 38-year-old male on a personal watercraft ran over two youth being pulled behind a pontoon on a tube. Youth are a 11-year-old male and a 15-year-old female," said Melissa Cumming, spokesperson with the DNR, Wildlife Resources division. Visitation for the Lanier boating victims will be at Hamilton Mill Chapel in Buford.
A memorial for Griffin and Jake Prince, the Buford brothers who were killed in a Lake Lanier boating collision last month, will be Monday in Gwinnett. Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Buford will host visitation for the youths from 6-9 p.m., according to the website. Griffin Prince, 13, and Jake Prince, 9, were killed June 18. They were aboard a pontoon boat being piloted by their father when another boat crashed into the Princes' boat late at night. The driver of the other boat, Paul J. Bennett, has been charged with boating under the influence. The body of Griffin Prince was recovered last week after a nine-day search of the lake. Officials with the Department of Natural Resources announced Monday that a Cumming man has been charged with homicide by vessel and Boating under the Influence in connection with the collision on Lake Lanier on April 21 that killed one person and seriously injured another. In a press release, the DNR said that Steven Brent Parker, 32, of Cumming has been charged with four counts: homicide by vessel (felony), serious injury by vessel (felony), BUI and reckless operation of a vessel. Officials said conviction on both felony counts would carry a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced Thursday it will team up with Gwinnett Police Department to maxim maximize resources and coverage of Lake Lanier. In a press release, the DNR, Wildlife Resources Division in Social Circle, said the two agencies would be launching a Boating Safety Initiative designed to increase a law enforcement presence on the lake and help address issues such as Boating Under the Influence. This comes on the heels of a tragic BUI case 10 days ago on Lake Lanier that resulted in the deaths of two brothers. This life or death decision should not be made on the basis of insurance coverage. If his coverage runs out, how can the hospital just discontinue treatment? It's the family's decision. Two other points: 1. Sometimes people do survive when taken off life support. 2. Maybe his step-father is able to cover some of the cost of his care.   more ›
