If you woke up this morning and realized yesterday was April 15 and you hadn’t yet filed your taxes, relax, this year you get a reprieve. Because the 15th fell on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day - a legal holiday in Washington D.C. - is being observed today, you actually get two extra days. In addition, the US Postal Services is pulling out the stops to help filers who wait until the very last minute, which is midnight, Tuesday, April 17. Two post offices in the Atlanta area will be open until midnight that day. These are the Atlanta Main Post Office, 3900 Crown Road, Atlanta (which is open from 6 a.m. until midnight year round) and the Boggs Road Postal Store, 1605 Boggs Road in Duluth. Other post offices will operate their regular hours, …

You still have a few days left to meet the filing deadline for your 2011 federal income tax returns. The tax deadline is traditionally on April 15, but it's been pushed back to April 17 this year due to the fact that April 15 is a Sunday and April 16 is Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia. April 17 is also the due date to apply for 2011 tax extensions. The Internal Revenue Service encourages taxpayers to file returns electronically. According to a statement posted on the IRS website, e-file is "the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds." For last minute filing tips, see the IRS video posted above. Brand pages already have migrated, and now personal pages are on the horizon.
Apparently the big Facebook Timeline switch has not happened yet. My personal page (and a lot of others) is still in normal mode, but I decided to go ahead and work on the Timeline version. I don't want to be surprised when Facebook finally decides to move forward, and then have no time to really go through anything. To be clear, brand pages have been converted. That happened a few days ago. You can check out a local Patch's page by clicking here. I don't really think I'm a fan, but pretty soon none of us will have a choice. It is unclear when the big switch, otherwise known as the final migration, of personal Facebook pages will be. Why wait around for that notification at the top of your page, assuming there will be one. Get in front of…

Late fees for renewals rise to $125 and 10 percent of the occupation tax after March 31.
If you own a business in the city of Lilburn and haven't renewed your business license, the penalty for doing it late is about to grow steep. If you renew now, the late fee is $25. After March 31, the fee is $125, plus 10 percent of the occupation tax. The city's offices are closed on Saturday, so the renewal will have to be done by Friday to avoid the stiffer penalties. Renewal packets can be downloaded from the city's website, in the Business Development section. City staff members at the First Avenue Annex, at 98 First Avenue, can help if you have questions.
