Lawrenceville artist Ralph B. Beach lives his life according to his own personal walk with God. He’s sharing that walk in the sketches he has on display at Grayson Library for the next month and will then be bringing his art to Lilburn. “I wanted to choose something that everybody would recognize,” Beach said. “These are faces that people see every day while flipping through channels.” The exhibit contains eight well-known television evangelical preachers, such as Joel Osteen, drawn with pencil on large Stonehenge paper.  Beach has created what he calls “a spiritual scavenger hunt” to accompany the exhibit with hopes that it will inspire those viewing it to delve into their own relationship with Jesus. He said his work of late is a …

Ads in Gwinnett Libraries Are a Possibility

GCPL's new plans call for 'non-tax' revenue of millions of dollars annually.

Advertising in libraries and business marketing initiatives are part of the GCPL's effort to make up funding cuts by reaching out to the private sector. Philip Saxton, chairman of the Gwinnett library system, said Monday he hopes the library can raise at least $4 million annually through private initiatives as it seeks to become less dependent on tax revenue. "We're not the same library we were a year ago," he told Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash and other county government leaders during the final day of budget review sessions. "We want to build something that's new, but looks old," he said. "What we're creating is a new gateway into the downtown area." Inspired by downtown streetscapes of Suwanee, Buford, Duluth and elsewhere, Lilburn's planned theme will be similar to one comparably sized Sugar Hill recently began, complete with wide sidewalks, globe street lamps and mixed-use development. Lilburn's feet dragging has resulted in 7 potential businesses for "Main Street" to look elsewhere. 18 months after this article was written and downtown is a "ghost town" even during business hours.
