City Government Retreat, Planning Session Feb. 2

City of Lilburn officials will meet for their annual planning retreat on Feb. 2 in Buford.

Lilburn City Council, the mayor, and other officials will meet Feb. 2 for the annual planning retreat. This is an open meeting. The long-range planning workshop will be held 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center Boardroom, 2020 Clean Water Drive, in Buford. The Lilburn City Council met on Monday, Jan. 14, for its monthly work session and regular meeting. Here is a quick run-down of what the major happenings were. 1. 2013 Lilburn Election Schedule and Qualifying Fees Lilburn City Council passed a resolution approving the upcoming city election, in which two council seats are up for grabs. The vote was unanimous, 4-0. The two council seats are: Post 3, held by Eddie Price, and Post 4, held by Tim Dunn. The election will be Nov. 5, 2013. Interested candidates may qualify during the period of Aug. 26 through Aug. 30. The qualifying fee is $150.00. City Council Meeting Notes, Dec. 10

City of Lilburn meets on Dec. 10 and decides, among other things, to tighten regulations on vacant and foreclosed properties.

The Lilburn City Council met on Monday, Dec. 10, for its monthly work session and regular meeting. Here is a quick run-down of what the major happenings. There also was talk of the old Blue Rooster spot. 1. Vacant/Foreclosed Real Property Ordinance: Lilburn City Council approved an ordinance to force owners of vacant or foreclosed properties to register them with the city. The vote was unanimous, 4-0. Ultimately, the city council wants to make it easier to track vacant properties that are not taken care of by owners, and to hold the owners accountable. Mayor Johnny Crist said it "has been high on our list of priorities." According to the ordinance, it will be $100 to register a vacant property.The city defines a vacant property as a place …

They have been trying to secure funding that is hard to come by right now, the DDA will do our best to work with anyone with the lease who wants to put a restaurant in 107 Main. However the DDA does not have to resources to install the equipment for a restaurant, that is up to the Restaurateur.   more ›

They say they are against big government, then they dream up something like this: vacant/foreclosed property ordinance. If you move out of your house and it is for sale, they have yet another reason to cite and fine you? They keep adding those nit-picky methods of generating revenue. Reminds me of the alarm registration ordinance and the curfew ordinance.   more ›

Council OKs Property Transactions in City's Center

Lilburn Mayor Johnny Crist: “These are two very big vision pieces in our city."

(Note: This report is based on a City of Lilburn press release) The Lilburn City Council approved two important property transactions at its monthly meeting Monday night. --The council approved the transfer of 38 acres of Gwinnett Water and Sewer Authority property to the Lilburn Downtown Development Authority. The former site of the Jackson Creek Water Treatment Facility, located near the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Indian Trail-Lilburn Road, is the property tied to Big League Dreams, the city's proposed multi-use sports complex. The property has 1,350 feet of frontage on Indian Trail Road and around 500 feet more on Lawrenceville Highway.  According to a press release emailed Monday evening, "The DDA’s ownership opens up …

It may seem that little is being done by city leaders to focus on Main St. The truth is that leaders actually began planning for redevelopment back in 2002 when they gathered community input that resulted in theTown Center Plan. Lilburn City Council met on Sept. 10 for its regular work session and council meetings of the month. Here is a quick run-down of the major happenings and discussions. 1. Items for Discussion (work session): Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Summary: Norman Nash, chairman of the DDA, updated the mayor and council members regarding the Main Street alignment project. The DDA's reported that the organization owned six properties, including one property that is rented to St. Mary's Independent Living Extension, or S.M.I.L.E., for about $800 a month.
