Meadowcreek, community lose a caring principal who aimed high.
When I was a young student at Berkmar High School, my theatre class decided to put on a lunchtime show. The idea was a little ambitious: Advertise the show in the cafeteria all week, and then get administrators to allow the students to come into the theatre with their lunches. I had to approach then-Assistant Principal Bob Jackson to request a relaxing of the rules. I remember our conversation was warm and positive. The show was a go. Only one thing: it wasn’t a full-scale production—just an experiment in our minds—so we didn’t take those important steps of, say, building a set or, in some cases, memorizing our lines. And the worst part? Mr. Jackson showed up, smiling the whole time, despite our ridiculous follies. I thought that said a …

The Patriots beat Meadowcreek 2-0 in front of a large crowd in Norcross.
Hundreds of fans witnessed the Berkmar Patriots (14-1-1) defeat rival Meadowcreek (7-8-0) by a score of 2-0 in a boys soccer game Wednesday night in Norcross. It was the seventh straight win for the Patriots, who can win the Region 8-AAAAA title next week against Dacula. Berkmar opened up the scoring with a remarkable goal with 29 minutes left in the first half. Patriot’s Luis Rodriguez took a curling shot from outside the box as he was falling from a defender’s push. The ball curled to the keeper’s right-hand side, over the fingertips of the outstretched keeper, and hit the top post and rattled inside the goal. Berkmar led 1-0 and the Patriot fans went crazy. Drums, vuvuzelas, trumpets and guitars were heard all night long from both sides…

Meadowcreek, Berkmar, and to some extent, the Shiloh cluster, have a highly transient population in relation to other schools and it will be very difficult to raise them up. You make it sound so easy, you should spend a day in a classroom at any one of these clusters and see what it's really like. You obviously have no clue.   more ›
