Hazardous weather is forecast for the area Monday, and Lilburn sits in the path.
Monday weather will likely bring hazardous weather for the area Monday evening (March 18). The National Weather Service says in a statement that storms will move into the Gwinnett area in the afternoon. The alert says "strong to severe storms with large hail" are possible, with the "risk of an isolated tornado." New rainfall amounts from one-fourth to one-half an an inch are possible. The frozen stuff could begin overnight Thursday, forecasts say.
The threat of severe weather for Lilburn and Gwinnett is looming again. Accoring to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of freezing rain overnight Thursday, Jan. 24, and "likely" for Friday, Jan. 25, before 4 p.m. Also, winds could reach 10 mph. The low Thursday night is forecast to be about 29 degrees. An Arctic air mass and moisture moving into the area is blamed. The week long rainy weather is expected to end tonight, but could turn to snow according to the National Weather Service.
There is good news and bad news to report on the weather. The National Weather Service is reporting that the rain that's been around all week is about to end tonight, but due to dropping temperatures, we could get a bit of snow this evening. The forecast calls for 100 percent chance of rain in the Lilburn area. There could be as much as an inch of rain today. Patchy fog is also likely before 10 a.m. Temperatures expected to reach 52 degrees. And winds are expected to pick up with gusts as high as 20 m.p.h. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the metro area including Lilburn.
A stalled front across central Georgia is expected to bring widespread rain to the metro area, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy, steady rain could cause flooding to areas with small streams, rivers and low lying areas to north Georgia. The NWS has issued a flood watch through tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The rain is expected to diminish on Wednesday but is expected to increase again on Thursday which could cause additional flooding to the area. By Thursday night the rain is expected to end. Friday is expected to be sunny with a high near 53 degrees. Evening temperatures are predicted to dip to 31 degrees.

Severe weather expected; watch issued until 5 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch tonight for most of metro Atlanta, including Gwinnett County. The watch runs until 5 a.m Saturday. Severe storms, with hail and tornadoes, are possible as a strong cold front appoaches from the West. This is the same storm system that has spawned a tornado outbreak today in the Ohio Valley.

The first frost advisory of this season has been issued for Friday morning and Gwinnett County is in the advisory area. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a frost advisory from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for portions of West and North Georgia. Temperatures are expected to fall to between 33 – 36 degrees Fahrenheit after midnight. According to the advisory, this could impact prematurely budding plants, shrubs and trees. These plants will be susceptible to these cold temperatures and may suffer frost damage and could be killed if left unprotected. Precautionary preparedness action is recommended. A frost advisory means that frost is possible and could result in outdoor plants being killed if not protected.

National Weather Service says strong storms could dampen evening.
The Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Gwinnett County until 2:45 p.m. today came and went with little impact on Lilburn. Still, there remains a chance for strong storms though the evening, potentially impacting Lilburn's Star-Spangled Celebration concert and fireworks in City Park. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. The National Weather Service says scattered strong-to-severe storms could produce quarter-sized hail, wind gusts to 40 mph and cloud-to-ground lightning. The Lilburn area could see some more heavy storms today, according to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. Gwinnett is included in the weather service's Harzardous Weather Outlook, which says isolated to scattered strong and severe storms could develop this afternoon and tonight. The storms could bring frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, winds up to 60 mph and heavy rain. Scattered storms are forecasted for north Georgia, isolated storms are expected in the central part of the state. Click here for local radar.
