On this day a year ago, Patti-Jo Shapiro passed away. Known as being a cheerleader for Lilburn, she was well-known and loved around town.
A year after losing her battle with cancer, Patti-Jo Shapiro is still heralded as being the unofficial “Ambassador of Lilburn.” Her pride, love and dedication to the city will be remembered for years to come, and so it is on this day, August 3 -- the day of her passing -- that Patch remembers her, as well. -- If you have memories of Patti-Jo Shapiro, please share them here on Patch. Hundreds attend memorial service for Patti-Jo Shapiro.
Hundreds of members of the Lilburn community arrived Saturday morning to help family and friends celebrate the life and accomplishments of Patti-Jo Shapiro. There was standing room only as Cantor Donna Faye Marcus led the service in both Hebrew and English prayers at the request of Patti-Jo several weeks before her passing. She stood next to a beautiful portrait of her daughter and sprays of yellow roses and other flower arrangements of yellow, orange and pink. Her sister Michele Slatnick …

She is survived by her mother Ann Vyce of Florida; daughters, Alaina and Laurel Shapiro; sisters, Arlene Falkin (Gary) and Michele Slatnick, both of Florida, and many other family members and friends around the world. Patti-Jo was born in West Hartford, Conn., but spent the past 30-plus years living and working in Gwinnett County and was proud to call herself a Gwinnettian. She was one of those rare individuals who …

Everywhere I go around town, people are always asking me “How is Patti-Jo”? Knowing how much you all truly care, I wanted to share with you that our dear friend Patti-Jo Shapiro is in good spirits and in very good hands with her current professional medical team. As some of you might already know, what started out last year as a pervasive toothache ended up at Emory with a diagnosis of a very rare form of cancer of the sinus cavity. After multiple radiation treatments, aggressive chemotherapy treatments and several hospital stays, the results were not what she and her family had hoped for. In spite of the first-class medical treatment and her own staunch personal determination to fight and win this battle, the cancer metastasized. Over …

At Lilburn business or networking events, I was not a natural mingler or networker, but if I was ever at an event where Patti-Jo was, she made me feel comfortable and welcome. Miss her a lot!   more ›
