Gwinnett Event To Help Troubled Homeowners To Be on November 1

The HomeSafe Georgia event will be at GJAC in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett BOC Chairman Charlotte Nash is helping to lead an event Thursday (November 1) in Gwinnett for an organization that seeks to help some homeowners make mortgage payments. HomeSafe Georgia will hold an event at Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville on Thursday, 10 a.m. According to a news release, it is the metro Atlanta kickoff and is geared for providing "temporary mortgage assistance for homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own." The goal is to help 18,000 families statewide, the news release said. Local Area Snapshots Today I will focus on what is happening in our area by high school district.  This will give us a big picture look of how the September numbers ended up being.   Parkview Parkview had 34 homes that sold with an average days on the market of 51. The average price was just north of $149,000. The high sale for September was $419,000. There are still 154 listings left from September that have an average days on the market of 111.   Berkmar Berkmar had 49 homes that sold with an average days on the market of 71. Home Prices Increasing, Inventory Shrinking

The housing market nationally continues to to recover. Released this week, year over year, there is an 8 percent increase in the sale of existing homes. Even more startling is the sale of new homes, with an increase of over 29 percent.  The average price of a home nationally increased to $187,400, a 9.5 percent increase when compared to 2011 levels. Many markets, including ours, are seeing price increases due to reduced inventory and multiple offers on homes.  What does this look like in Lilburn? We are looking at a similar trend, with a nearly 31 percent reduction in listings when compared to 2011. In light of the city of Lilburn considering a foreclosure registry, we are dedicating this real estate column to foreclosures in the area.

There are an estimated 4,500 homes in Lilburn, and a number of them are foreclosed properties. According to data from RealtyTrac, Lilburn sits behind Lawrenceville, Snellville, Norcross and Buford, in that order, when it comes to foreclosures. However, the city is located in a county with the highest foreclosures rates of any county in the state. Lilburn October Home Sales Rise

A total of 60 houses were sold in Lilburn last month, an increase over September and a year earlier, statistics show.

Sales of homes in Lilburn rose last month, according to a report by realtor Lane Bailey. In the Lilburn, GA Market Report published Monday, Bailey said 60 homes sold last month, compared with 44 in September and 38 in October 2010. The number of houses on the market has also decreased, Bailey said. Although "Lilburn had been among the weakest of Gwinnett County, GA, cities I track" there is now an 8.4 month supply of properties on the market, compared with a 14.35 month supply in February of this year, Bailey said. Of the 427 houses for sale, 306 are listed for less than $200,000, according to the report. There are 109 listed between $200,000 and $400,000. Only six are listed for more than $600,000. What's more expensive? A home or a Hyundai?

Bet you never thought you'd ever hear something like this: You can buy a home for less money than it takes to purchase a Hyundai. OK, so Hyundai has come out with a new luxury model called the Equus, designed to compete with models from BMW, Lexus and others. But it's still a Hyundai, right? According to Autotrader.com, a 2011 Hyundai Equus Ultimate will run you at least $65,400 (including destination charge). So that gave us an idea. Using www.realestate.aol.com, we looked for homes in the Lilburn area that are cheaper than $65,400. Here are five (there are more) of them.

Great article. I love looking at houses. Lilburn has some great ones. I took a few days off in January to look at houses, rather then get the shop set up for opening. Found a few I loved!
