Bowl Game Roundup: Georgia's SEC Title Game Loss Was Costly Financially

The BCS title game payout would have meant an estimated $600,000 more in revenue for the Bulldogs.

When Georgia came up short against Alabama in the SEC title game earlier in December, it cost the Bulldogs more than a national title shot. The difference in revenue for the Bulldogs between the BCS National Championship Game and the Capital One Bowl likely is about $600,000. With bowl season beginning this past Saturday (December 15), it's another reminder that the postseason -- especially the elite BCS bowls -- is very lucrative for college teams. According to available information and estimates, SEC champion Alabama will make about $1.925 million for playing Notre Dame in the national championship game on January 7. Georgia, by virtue of its loss to the Tide, will play in the Capital One Bowl on January 1 -- a non-BCS bowl that has a …

Georgia Football vs. Alabama: Who Will Win the SEC Championship?

If the Bulldogs beat Bama, they're likely headed to Miami to take on Notre Dame for the BCS title.

Well, here we are, on the brink of the SEC championship game, a football game that many doubted the Georgia Bulldogs would reach this year, but which could propel them to the contest for the National Championship. The Georgia Bulldogs haven't won a national title since they beat Notre Dame in 1980, despite fielding one of the most consistently successful teams in the country. As Dan Wolken of USA Today put it, "There aren't many opportunities to put 30 years of frustration aside as a program, but Georgia is on the doorstep of one of them." To get in the door, the Bulldogs have to defeat No. 2 Alabama, no easy feat. Seth Emerson reports for the Ledger-Enquirer that the teams are pretty evenly matched, with Georgia bringing the nation's No. …

Georgia Bulldogs, Missouri Tigers Enter Unfamiliar Territory

Here's what they're saying about the Bulldogs and Tigers in Missouri's SEC debut.

How do we know Georgia Bulldogs football is special? Because Delta Airlines is changing its flight schedule just to make sure UGA fans get to Columbia, Missouri, in time for the Tigers' inaugural SEC game. It will be a learning process. Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph reports the two teams are virtual strangers. Neither squad even has a scholarship player from the other's state. Georgia head coach Mark Richt did interview for the Missouri job more than a decade ago, but the teams' only previous matchup was in 1960. At least one Missouri player isn't that impressed with what he's seen of Georgia so far. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson told a reporter he watched some of the Georgia-Buffalo game last week, then turned it off. "It's …

Georgia To Open SEC Play at Missouri in 2012

Newest SEC East team will open vs. defending division champs. The entire 2012 schedule is released by the league.

The Georgia Bulldogs, this season's SEC East champions, will get to welcome the division's newest team to conference play next season. The conference announced Monday that the Bulldogs will play at Missouri on Sept. 8, 2012. Missouri is based in Columbia, Mo. Missouri this week defeated North Carolina in the Independence Bowl to finish the season 8-5. Georgia's season opener will be Sept. 1 in Athens vs. Buffalo. The league also announced the entire SEC 2012 schedule. Texas A&M, the SEC's other new team, will host Florida in its opener, also on Sept. 8. Georgia's SEC slate includes another twist. The games vs. Vanderbilt and Tennessee, normally in October, will be in September. And the game against South Carolina, which has been Georgia's …

Bulldogs Going for Fifth Consecutive Win

Will the Commodores upset the Dawgs' plans?

Georgia continues its Tennessee road trip this weekend with a visit to Nashville. The Bulldogs managed a 20-12 win in Knoxville, but will Vanderbilt be more of a challenge than the Volunteers? The Commodores were shut out last week by No. 2 Alabama and fell to South Carolina by a 21-3 margin the previous week. Vanderbilt is the underdog in Saturday's matchup, but the Bulldogs will be fighting to keep their winning momentum without outside linebacker Cornelius Washington who will be serving the second of a two-game suspension for a DUI arrest. Will the Bulldogs keep their winning streak alive? Tell us in the comments.

Can Georgia Get Another SEC Win?

Are the Georgia Bulldogs good enough to beat the ones from Mississippi State?

The University of Georgia will attempt to improve its SEC record this week against the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Georgia (2-2, 1-1 SEC) is coming off a 27-13 win at Ole Miss. The win was the first conference victory for UGA after losing to South Carolina on Sept. 10. Mississippi State (2-2, 0-2 SEC) returns to action after a tough outing against Louisiana Tech (1-3). Mississippi State barely managed to win in overtime against a team whose only win this season was in overtime against Central Arkansas. Will a home field advantage and last week's taste of SEC success be enough to help UGA win? Cast your vote in our poll.
