News Nearby: Series of Hit-and-Runs End in Fatality

Police responded to the scene of a fatal accident on U.S. Highway 78 and Walton Court in Snellville. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Gwinnett County Police responded to the scene of a fatal accident Wednesday night at the corner of U.S. Highway 78 and Walton Court in Snellville. According to Cpl. Jake Smith, the accident began as a series of hit-and-runs in DeKalb County and ended in Snellville.  The driver caused a fatal accident near Walton Court, police said, then crashed into a building.  Snellville Police were the first to respond to the scene and detained the suspect. Police did not immediately release names of anyone involved. According to an AJC.com, the arrested driver is a 70-year-old man, who police believe was driving drunk and caused at least 15 wrecks along his path. The man may face charges in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, including vehicular homicide, …

Police Investigating Shooting at Snellville Apartment Complex

Gwinnett County police say the shooting victim will be OK.

Gwinnett County police detectives are investigating an afternoon shooting in unincorporated Snellville that left one man injured. About 4 p.m., officers responded to a call of an adult male with a gunshoot wound at the BP gas station at Hewatt Road and U.S. Highway 78, according to a press statement. Police said the wound appeared to not be life-threatening. The shooting allegedly took place at a nearby apartment complex, Orion at Killian Creek, located at 2300 Country Walk in Snellville, officials said in the press statement. However, officers were unable to determine where the crime scene was. In addition, the police spokesman said it was unclear how the man was shot, who was responsible or why the incident happened.
