Athens Clarke County Police say the man confronted the couple as they were loading up a pickup truck. They told him they were with the mortgage company and were at the house because it was going into foreclosure. Police worked on a tip from an online “top pawners” watchlist that showed he had pawned 29 items in January. He said he didn’t steal them all, but did admit to stealing three fire pits from a Kroger in Lilburn, tools from Ace Hardware in Lawrenceville, a DVD player from the Walmart in Lilburn and four cameras from a CVS in Lilburn. When some people are after you, resisting is a good idea. An Athens man smacked an intruder with a baseball bat after the guy kicked his door in, and the guy ran away with his door-kicking friends. A woman in Norcross beat back a man who sprayed her with pepper spray and then tried to choke her while she cleaned a hotel room. Her quick thinking helped get her to safety. But when the police are after you, resisting generally leads to more trouble. A Barrow County man whose dogs attacked officers trying to arrest him lost his dogs in that exchange.
