Weird Police News: Door-Banging, Broom-Threatening, Bike-Taking, Purse-Leaving

This holiday, let's all thank our law enforcement officers for dealing with this stuff.

It's holiday season, but that doesn't slow down unusual criminal behavior. Snatching, shouting and shooting continue. A man asked another man if he could borrow his bike at a Sonic drive-in in unincorporated Norcross. The bike owner said yes, and now there's a new bike owner. A television has a new owner after it was swiped from a church in Bogart. Somebody forced a door open at Bogart Christian Church and made off with a flat-screen TV. Another man in Norcross succeeded in a snatching, but he didn't get the bag he wanted. When he demanded a woman's purse, she gave him her lunchbox instead. So there is such a thing as a free lunch. An Athens employee found something he didn't like in his lunch -- a trace of cleaning agent in his water …

News Nearby: Man Steals Bike After Asking for Ride; Robber Nabs Lunchbox Instead of Purse

Both thefts took place in unincorporated Norcross.

A man told police that his mountain bike was stolen last month after he let someone ride his it at a Sonic drive-in in unincorporated Norcross. The incident started when the man arrived at the 1220 Tech Drive establishment on his bicycle around 2:38 p.m. on a Sunday, according to the Gwinnett Police report. While the man was ordering his food, another man approached him and asked if he could ride his bike. The owner gave him permission, so the man got on the bike and rode it around the fast food establishment while the owner finished giving his order. The bicycle rider rode it around the back of Sonic and was never seen again, the owner said. Police observed surveillance video of the incident confirming the story. For the rest of the story…

She was told by a male phone-caller that a camera crew was on its way with the check, and all she needed to do to prepare for the big moment was to purchase $200 in prepaid cards to cover taxes and other costs. She obliged, and was called later by the man asking for more money. The camera crew never arrived.  2. The street value was $25,000. 3. Trailer Park Pot Gwinnett County cops have pretty powerful weed-detection abilities, too. A police officer reportedly smelled raw pot while on patrol in a trailer park. Inside one…

Strange crime stories in Northeast Georgia, as reported on local Patch sites.

Click on the links below for more details 1. Police say a Duluth man driving his girlfriend's SUV walked into a Lilburn home, where a rifle case caught his eye. He looked suspicious, and caught the eye of a neighbor, who called police. Eventually located by police, he fled into nearby woods. But, what officers found in the back of the SUV susprised them even more: It was a baby. The baby, apparently, belonged to the man's girlfriend, and was unharmed. Guess he didn't want to give up his baby-sitting duties while being on the lam. 2. The “person down” DeKalb County police found on a recent weekday morning ended up being a half-dressed woman who was sleeping on the ground. He dropped off the clothes and paid the money, but when he returned to pick up his clothes six days later the building was deserted. 2. Really? Stealing paint? Weird Police News: Weed Cover-Up, Beer Logic and More

Unusual police stories from Northeast Georgia.

Click on the links below for more details 1. When will stoners ever learn? Using air freshener to cover up the smell of weed never works. A Gwinnett County Police officer making a traffic stop on I-85 smelled overwhelming odors of marijuana and air freshener coming from a rental car driven by a Stone Mountain woman, with a South Carolina man in the passenger seat. The officer wrote in his report: “I noticed there were two clip-on air fresheners stuck inside the air vents. This stood out to me because this was an Enterprise rental car and the average motoring public does not add air fresheners to a rental car.” The officer later found a UPS box with a PlayStation 3 box inside. Inside that box were three pounds of pot. 2. When a man was …

Weird Police News: Back-to-School Thievery, Bad Driving and Joy Riding

Unusual police stories from Northeast Georgia.

Click on the links for more info on each story 1. It’s common for someone to blame the traffic for being late to work. But a Lawrenceville woman flipped that around to explain why she had side-swiped another vehicle in a Snellville-area intersection. The woman said she was sitting in a left-turn lane during a red light, then decided she wanted to go straight through the intersection. According to a police report, she punched it when the light turned green, struck the car and continued on her way. Police caught up later and heard this explanation — she was late for work. The woman was arrested and charged with several offenses, including hit-and-run, improper lane change and no proof of insurance. She ended up being really late for work. 2…
