Concerned Citizens Rally for Gun Safety

Two months after the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., concerned citizens rallied in Gwinnett County to ask U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall to support gun safety laws.

A group of concerned citizens stood with signs outside the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville Thursday to call for support of reasonable gun safety laws. It's been more than two months since the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Twenty-six people, mostly young children, lost their lives when a gunman opened fire in the school on Dec. 14. MoveOn.org sponsored the event urging U.S. Representative Rob Woodall—who’s office is housed in GJAC—to take action on gun safety.  “We ask Representative Woodall to listen to his constituents and stand up for common sense reforms that will reduce gun violence,” said Kathleen Allen in a release. Allen is a mother in Norcross, a gun owner and MoveOn.…

Large numbers of people flocked to the Gwinnett fairgrounds last weekend for a gun show. The current national discussion of gun control and safety (due to the December shooting in Newtown, Connecticut) was obviously a reason. This is due to the so-called "gun show loophole." -- Should the "gun show loophole" be closed? What are your thoughts on gun rights? Share your thoughts…

In Great Britain, where guns have been banned for years, violent crime per 1000 people is one of the highest rates in the world. Banning guns did nothing to control violent crime. While we debate which guns to ban, they debate which kitchen knives to ban next. After President Reagan and Jim Brady were shot, the perpetrator was sent to a mental facility. Then instead of solving the real problem--…   more ›

New Gun Range to Open Soon

Mainstreet Guns & Range is expected to open in the next several weeks. Patch caught up with owner Jim Hornsby to see why he's starting the new venture.

Lilburn soon will be home to Mainstreet Guns & Range, located near the corner of U.S. Highway 29 and Killian Hill Road. There's been a few snags getting set up, but the main retail room will soon have merchandise and the two gun ranges are nearing completion. Owner Jim Hornsby, the kind of man who insists his children learn to shoot -- and shoot well, is hopeful that the doors will be open in about three weeks.  Check out our Patch Q&A with Hornsby to learn more about why he chose Lilburn and what he thinks of the current gun market. Question and Answer: Patch: What made you select Lilburn for the place for your new firearms store? Hornsby: Genny and I moved to Lilburn from Stone Mountain in 1991 with the birth of our daughter Mary …
