Severe weather expected; watch issued until 5 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch tonight for most of metro Atlanta, including Gwinnett County. The watch runs until 5 a.m Saturday. Severe storms, with hail and tornadoes, are possible as a strong cold front appoaches from the West. This is the same storm system that has spawned a tornado outbreak today in the Ohio Valley.
Effort that helps Lawrenceville seniors make ends meet hopes to eventually go county-wide.
Every month, the living room and garage floors of Fay Josephs' home reflect her desire to help area seniors make ends meet. Household and personal-care items that many of us take for granted — toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, soap, detergent, mouthwash, denture cleaner, and more — sit ready to be sorted, bagged and distributed to seniors who are living near or below the poverty line in Lawrenceville Housing Authority units. Through the two-year-old Save Our Seniors program, Josephs and a group of 8 to 10 volunteers band together to deliver the goods one Saturday every month. The effort reaches 50 seniors who have Social Security incomes of less than $1,000 per month and wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase these goods. Eventually, …
