Fire Displaces Lilburn Family of Six

It is believed that a chimney caused the fire on Sunset Crest Trail.

A house fire Sunday afternoon displaced a family of six -- two adults and four children, but no one sustained injuries, according to Gwinnett County offiials. At approximately 2:31 p.m., emergency workers were dispatched to the scene of the house fire in the 4300 block of Sunset Crest Trail. The caller, who also was a resident, said the fire began in the chimney, according to a press release from Lt. Colin Rhoden, of the Gwinnett County fire department. Arriving five minutes later, crews found heavy smoke and fire showing throughout the attic area. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the second floor and attic areas, the release stated. Fire Displaces Lilburn Family of Five

Lightning was the cause of a house fire on Remington Court.

A house fire caused by lightning Monday evening displaced a Lilburn family of five, including a special-needs boy. Fikri Erdem said his home on the 5000 block of Remington Court, inside the Lilburn city limits, shook from the thunder when an intense lightning storm moved through the area around 7 p.m. The resulting fire burned through the roof of the single-story home, located in the area near Hood Road and Lawrenceville Highway. A fast response from firefighters limited most of the damage to the attic, according to Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge. The main-level living area of the home received smoke and water damage. Firefighters were dispatched at 7:16 p.m., according to Rutledge, following a 911 call from the homeowner.  “…
