A trial date has been set for a Lilburn man accused in the killing and dismemberment of a Mercer University Law student in 2011, according to media reports. Stephen McDaniel's trial is set for Sept. 9, according to reports. It was the earliest date that could be agreed upon, according to The Telegraph. McDaniel was Giddings' next-door neighbor at the time. Police later found her torso wrapped in plastic in a garbage bin next to the their Macon apartment building. Stephen McDaniel, the Lilburn native accused in the brutal June murder of his Macon law-school classmate, faces new charges of sexual exploitation of children, according to the Macon Police Department. According to a Macon PD press release, Police Chief Mike Burns and Bibb County District Attorney Greg Winters said warrants were signed Tuesday afternoon charging McDaniel with seven counts of sexual exploitation of children. McDaniel, 25, a Parkview High School graduate, is already in the Bibb County jail, accused in the murder of Lauren Giddings, a fellow graduate of the Mercer University law school and his next-door neighbor. The news of the former Parkview High School graduate being charged with a gruesome murder in Macon, drew some mixed responses to those who went to school and church with him in Lilburn. Stephen Mark McDaniel, 25, who is suspected in the killing and dismemberment of fellow Mercer Law School graduate Lauren Giddings, was described as “quiet,” “kind of socially awkward” and “weird” by former classmates.
