Who Won the Powerball Jackpot?

Two winning tickets sold for the record-breaking jackpot, estimated at $588 million. Georgia ticket buyers come up short.

Unfortunately for Georgia lottery players, the winning ticket for Wednesday's record-breaking $588 million Powerball jackpot was not bought here in the state. According to Georgia lottery officials, two winning tickers were purchased in Arizona (a state that sells more Powerball tickets than most because nearby states like California do not have the game) and Missouri. Who the winners are exactly? We probably won't now for some time. The winning numbers were: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29, and the Powerball number of 6 Georgia did have some winners from the drawing, however, according to the Georgia Lottery website. UPDATE: Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $550 Million

Georgia Lottery says it's the largest jackpot in the game's history.

Who wants to be a $500 millionaire? The jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing is estimated at $550 million -- and could continue to grow today, a record-breaking figure for the multi-state lottery game, according to the Georgia Lottery. “The Powerball jackpot has soared to a record amount, which is exciting for players and important for the educational programs we fund,” said Georgia Lottery Corporation President and CEO Debbie D. Alford in a press release. “Georgia Lottery players have a chance to win big, and the students of Georgia certainly win big with every ticket purchased.” Wednesday’s jackpot has grown to a record pot because no one has matched the winning numbers in 15 straight drawings.
