David Pendered is an Atlanta-based journalist with nearly 30 years experience reporting on the region’s urban affairs – the people, places, politics and events that create its vibrancy.

I enjoy helping people tell their stories about their efforts to make their community a better and safer place to live, work and play.

My outlook has been shaped by my experiences as a journalist in Atlanta. Over the years I’ve written stories with insights shared by from current and mayors including Kasim Reed, Andy Young, Maynard Jackson, Bill Campbell, Sam Massell and Shirley Franklin. The Rev. Joseph Lowery has helped me see a certain light. Fulton County Commissioner Emma Darnell introduced me to “the least of these,” and the hard work of caring people at “the Grady’s” taught me the value of never surrendering, no matter what condition presents itself.

Most of my work has involved reporting on the hard challenges of governing. My topics have included Atlanta mayor and city hall; the Beltline and other projects reshaping the city; the finances and politics of Grady Health System; Atlanta police and fire; state Legislature and Public Service Commission; the process called redistricting, which influences who can get elected to the state Legislature and Congress; urban and rural developments backed by federal and state incentive packages; and an array of local affairs stretching from school boards to county commissions.

Most recently, my interests have been on the redevelopment of neighborhoods that have been neglected. A rising tide of residents in the city have renewed communities including Cascade Heights, Collier Heights, Adamsville and Greenbriar, countless people work to lift spirits and the quality of life. I look forward to helping share their stories.
