Berkmar High Principal Transferred, Interim Leader Takes Position

Current principal Michael Zinn is expected to be placed in an assistant principal position.

Gwinnett County school district officials announced Wednesday that the principal of Berkmar High is being transferred, while an interim leader takes his place.

Jane Stegall assumes the role "effective immediately" as Michael Zinn transfers to another position, which officials say he requested for "personal reasons." Zinn served as principal in the past school year.

Stegall a veteran educator is being brought out of retirement to lead Berkmar High while the district looks for a permanent replacement.

She previously served as principal of Brookwood High from 2002-2007.

Regarding Zinn, district officials said it is unclear where he will be located, but that he will become an assistant principal elsewhere.

On the school's website, Zinn made this statement:

"I want to let the students and their families know that for personal reasons, I have made the very difficult decision to take another position with less responsibility in Gwinnett County.

"Last year was a fantastic year. We made gains on most of our test score indicators and our extracurricular experienced a lot of success. The climate of Berkmar is very positive as we begin this year and I am confident that the wonderful Berkmar faculty will this positive momentum.

"Leading Berkmar has been a wonderful experience. I am very proud of Berkmar's student body and the good work the faculty continues to do. I look forward to great things from Berkmar High School."
