Officer Puts Down Injured Fawn After Vehicle Collision

A driver hit the deer late one night on Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn.

A Lilburn Police officer has to put down a baby deer after it was hit by a car last week. 

According to the incident report, a man had been driving down Highway 29 toward Lawrenceville around midnight one evening when the fawn came across his path. His car collided with the animal and the man stopped to check on the animal and call 911. 

The officer on scene observed the deer, which wasn't moving. The report details that its legs were broken and one of them was severely broke, with a bone protruding the skin. 

The officer put down the injured animal with two bullets to the heart. The police department has the incident listed as a "discharge of duty weapon."
