Police Identify Suspect in Officer-Involved Shooting, Issue Warrants

Lilburn Police have identified the suspect in an officer-involved shooting on March 18, 2013.

Police have identified the shoplifting suspect in an officer-involved shooting March 18 at a Lilburn Family Dollar.

The man is identified as 62-year-old Louis Richardson, said Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley. He has no known address.

Richardson faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and theft by shoplifting. Hedley said warrants have been issued.

The man is still being treated a local hospital following the Tuesday incident, when he was shot twice by a Lilburn police officer at Family Dollar, located 5279 Lawrenceville Highway.

Officials said Richardson is in serious but stable condition.

The officer, who has been with the Lilburn Police Department for seven years, is on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lilburn Police Department are conducting two separate investigations, Hedley said.

The last time a Lilburn police officer was involved in a shooting was 2005, during a bank robbery, Hedley said.
