Police Nab Lilburn Bank Robbery Suspect

Jason Anthony Mitchell, of Lawrenceville, was arrested and charged with possession of firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery, violation of probation, obstruction and criminal trespassing.

Gwinnett County Police apprehended a Lilburn bank robbery suspect.

According to a news release from Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter, Lawrenceville resident Jason Anthony Mitchell has been charged in connection to robbing the PNC bank at 494 Indian Trail Road in the city of Lilburn at 10:18 a.m. Saturday (July 6).

Gwinnett officers received information on the 32-year-old's whereabouts in unincorporated Lawrenceville minutes after the robbery. When authorities reached the area of Brays Mill Trace and Bromolow Trail off Arc Way and Pleasant Hill Road, they located Mitchell inside of a car.

An officer told him to stay, but he refused to comply and started walking toward one of the houses. He then started running to the rear of the residence, where more officers confronted him. Despite their commands to stop, Mitchell kept running, leaving a trail of money behind. He was eventually tased and apprehended.

After charging Mitchell with obstruction and criminal trespassing, Gwinnett Police released him to the Lilburn Police Department. Lilburn Police have charged him with possession of firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery and violation of probation.

Mitchell's currently being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Jail.
